How to play with the riddles

Give one hint at a time. If your child gets stuck, ask: «Did this animal eat plants or meat?» That one question rules out about half of all dinosaurs.

Let the child be the host. After a few rounds, they invent their own riddle and you try to guess. Kids love it when the grown-up gets it wrong on purpose.

Turn it into drawing. Each answer becomes a picture: your child draws the dinosaur and you guess. If you want a head start, we have free printable coloring pages.

Add some movement. Ask your child to act out the animal: the heavy steps of T. rex, the sprint of Velociraptor, the stretched neck of Brachiosaurus. With supervision and some open space, it burns energy and brings laughs.

Why dinosaurs fascinate kids so much

Dinosaurs are big, mysterious and real, and that mix is hard to resist. You can talk about size, food, defense and family, all with a five-ton giant as an excuse. It is a gentle doorway into science.

When your child tires of riddles, switch the game: a game, a drawing or a story. Try Pigúiça's free game, which runs in the browser with no sign-up and no ads, or watch the episodes of the free cartoon. And if your child loves stories with puppies and lots of imagination, the book Dogavios: Where Dreams Come to Life takes Pigúiça and Fofuxo to the Magic Garden.

Frequently asked questions

What age are these dinosaur riddles for?

They work well from about age 4 with a grown-up's help. Kids aged 6 to 9 often solve them alone, and older kids can invent new riddles.

Is a pterodactyl a dinosaur?

No. Pterodactyls were flying reptiles called pterosaurs. They lived at the same time as the dinosaurs but belong to a different group. That makes riddle 20 a nice educational trick question.

How can I teach the hard dinosaur names?

Repeat them while playing. Split the name into small pieces, like «tri-cer-a-tops», and clap on each syllable. In a few rounds, your child will say it without tripping.
